Lagoa celebrates 248 years of becoming a municipality with online initiatives

Chamber had to cancel some of the planned actions, but will not fail to celebrate the date, even if exclusively online

The municipality of Lagoa will celebrate 248 years of becoming a municipality with an online program that includes a concert by the Algarve Camerata orchestra and a conference, in addition to the traditional message by Luís Encarnação, mayor, on Saturday, the 16th.

These will be, according to the Câmara de Lagoa, the possible celebrations, "taking into account the worsening of the context of the pandemic by Covid-19 and the already predictable confinement", which led to the cancellation of several activities.

In this way, there will be no events with the public, but the live broadcast of the initiatives through the website from the municipality, from the Chamber page on Youtube and in social networks.

In his presentation, Luís Encarnação will highlight “the human qualities of the women and men who have written the history of Lagoa”, as well as that “it is through the knowledge of the people, the territory, its Heritage and History that we better understand the identity of the who now live here», according to the Câmara de Lagoa.

On the other hand, João Vasco Reis will lead his conference entitled «1773 – 2021. Reflections on the recent and present past of Lagoa», giving his perspective as a researcher of local history.

At 21:30 pm, it will be broadcast live,  from the Chapel of the Convento de São José Cultural Center, the concert by the Algarve Camerata orchestra, conducted by conductor João Rocha.
