Postmen from Monchique now have to go to Portimão and then return… to Monchique

CTT's Monchique branch will not be closed and will continue to function normally

Postmen from Monchique will now have to go to Portimão, and then… return to Monchique and deliver the mail. At issue is a change in the Postal Distribution Centers (CDP) of CTT, which should come into force "already next week".

Even so, CTT's Monchique branch will not be closed and will continue to function normally. This was the guarantee left by Gilda Carrasco, CTT's area director, in a meeting with Rui André, president of the Monchique Chamber.

Ao Sul Informação, the mayor explained that "there will be no changes to the routes or the number of postmen": just a logistical change that will force these professionals to start their work in Portimão.

This change arises because «CTT is reorganizing its services, namely in relation to the so-called “postal distribution centers” (CDP), which, in practice, correspond to the places where correspondence is concentrated, to be subsequently distributed by postmen in their turns”, framed the mayor, in a publication on Facebook.

Until now, although Monchique was already dependent on the Distribution Center of Portimão, the rounds were organized in Monchique, something that will change with this change.

After hearing these clarifications from CTT, Rui André says that "the important thing is to maintain the service at satisfactory standards and without delays in the distribution of mail and, whenever possible, without major inconvenience or negative consequences for workers and the population" .

Even so, the mayor recognizes that there will be "a greater inconvenience to the day-to-day work of postmen, with trips that could have been avoided."

The mayor of Monchique also inferred that «the objective is to arrange these services in the future, which, in practice, can be negative», although the most important thing is that «the functions of the CTT are guaranteed» with its « important work of proximity, which they have with our more rural population».

«I will monitor this process in order to guarantee the maintenance of the quality levels that are deserved and fair, as there should not be first-rate or second-rate populations. I will also monitor whether this change will imply more than what is already evident and which relates to the displacement, probably avoidable, of workers and their evident and natural lack of motivation", concludes the mayor who still hopes for the "reversibility of this decision ».
