Covid-19: Illegal homes on vaccination priorities, 105 closed in 2020

Guarantee was given by Ana Mendes Godinho, Minister of Labour, Solidarity and Social Security

The minister of Labour, Solidarity and Social Security guaranteed today that all elderly people in illegal homes are covered by the priorities of the vaccination plan against Covid-19, adding that 105 have already been closed this year.

“All people are covered, because our concern is to prioritize all situations of people who are more at risk, who are older people, who are in institutions where there is more risk of propagation. They are all covered», said minister Ana Mendes Godinho, who is currently being heard at the request of the CDS-PP by the eventual commission to monitor the implementation of the measures to respond to the pandemic.

Deputy Clara Marques Mendes, of the PSD, recalled that in March the Government committed to a survey of how many illegal homes exist in the country.

“It is important to understand if the Government has done this work and really knows where all the seniors are, because there are no seniors and seniors in the second. Can you know how many people we are talking about and where these people are», questioned the Social Democrat deputy.

In response, the minister said that in 2020 the Social Security Institute (ISS) carried out 1.064 inspections and inspections in homes, which represents a 50% increase in inspections carried out on legal and illegal institutions.

"This resulted in the identification of 788 irregular situations of illegal homes and so far, 105 illegal homes have been closed this year," said the official.

He added that in 2020 the ISS carried out 4.139 follow-up visits to homes, both legal and illegal, which represents “an increase of 256% in the number of visits made by the ISS”.

“Truly, if we went back to the years 2013 and 2014, it would be very difficult to mobilize the people of the ISS for an action like this when they were being demobilized and were being placed in a mobility situation. Our position is exactly the opposite, it is to value the people of the ISS, who have been tireless in their mission of being at the service of others», replied the minister to the PSD.

Clara Marques Mendes accused Ana Mendes Godinho of not answering the questions, which she considered "worrying".

“He doesn't answer because he doesn't know what to do. It's a total disorientation of the Government», accused the deputy, insisting that no response was given to how many illegal homes there are, where they are and how many elderly people receive, which with regard to the vaccination plan left doubts for the PSD.

"We already realize that it is not calculated", said Clara Marques Mendes, who also took the opportunity to say that the PSD presented a draft resolution to recommend to the Government that it resort to the support of fire brigades, authorities and local authorities "to identify where these elderly people are to be able to support them and not fail them with the social response».

"The PSD does not allow any elderly to be left behind and will not agree with this inertia of the Government," said the deputy.

Clara Marques Mendes also questioned the minister, who is being heard by digital means, about the support given to guardians of students covered by the time limit granted by the Government on the eve of the two December holidays, which closed schools on those days.

The minister referred that this was an "absolutely punctual" situation, so the Government's concern was only to ensure that parents had their absences from work justified, if they had to stay at home to take care of their children, which Social Democratic deputy criticized: “Losing income is a one-off situation. We're sorry'.
