Users say that discounts on Via do Infante are the Government's "fun maneuver"

This is, for the Commission of Users, "a ridiculous measure"

The Commission of Users of Via do Infante (CUVI) says that the 25% discounts on the A22, announced by the Government, are a "fun maneuver", calling for the immediate suspension of tolls.

In a press release, CUVI considers that António Costa's executive “announced some measly discounts on toll fees from January of next year” which “will only be applied from the 8th day of use in the same month, but for that, motorists will have to have the electronic device».

This is, for the Commission of Users, "a ridiculous measure" and "an authentic muddle on the part of the Government" that "intends throw sand for the eyes of the algarvians».

«What is needed is to end tolls in the Algarve, it is for the Government to comply with the provisions of the Assembly of the Republic, thus reducing road accidents, fatalities and injuries, particularly on the EN125, and alleviating the crisis to people and businesses in the region,” argues CUVI.

The User Committee also cites the «Report of the Technical Unit for Monitoring Projects/UTAP» to say that the A22 PPP had, in the 1st quarter of this year, «a deficit of 15.2 million euros, with a coverage rate of only 26% due to the collection of toll fees, which will represent for the State, at the end of the year, a loss of around 60 million euros».
