Via do Infante will have cheaper tolls from 1 January

Discount reaches 25%

The price of tolls on Via do Infante (A22) will have new discounts that take effect on 1 January. The measure was approved this Thursday, October 22, at the meeting of the Council of Ministers.

Ana Abrunhosa, Minister of Territorial Cohesion, at the briefing of the Council of Ministers, said that there will be a 25% discount for class 1 and 2 vehicles, which will be applied from the 8th day of use in a month, in all ex- SCUT.

The application of the discount is automatic and universal, through the electronic identifier.

In addition to this reduction for class 1 and 2 vehicles, there will be an increase in the discount for goods transport vehicles, with the current discount of 30% during the day and 50% at night rising, respectively, to 35% and 55%.

The Government emphasizes that, for the first time, the discount scheme will be extended to passenger transport, “to encourage the use of public transport”.

These measures will also be applied on the A4, the Sendim/Águas Santas section, the Marão Tunnel and the Vila Real-Bragança (Quintanilha) section, on the A13, on the section between Atalaia (A23) and Coimbra Sul, on the A13-1, on the A17, in the Mira/Aveiro Nascente section, on the A23, A24, A25, A28, A29, A41 – Freixieiro/Ermida (IC 25) and A42.

According to Ana Abrunhosa, the new discounts were applied due to «the need to reduce context costs and bring populations closer together», promoting territorial cohesion.

There is also the objective, according to the official, of reducing accidents, as it promotes the use of “safer roads, especially ex-SCUT, roads that were designed not to be tolled”.
