Lagoa hosts the competition “Cities of Wine 2020” in November

Registration is open until the 30th

Lagoa will host the competition “Cities of Wine 2020” and show the best of what is produced in the different wine regions of the country, between the 26th and 29th of November.

The event was presented last week, at Quinta dos Vales, in Lagoa, and gives access to the European competition CittàdelVino, to be held in May 2021, in Italy.

«The joint participation of municipalities and producers in the promotion and dissemination of wines from the various regions of Portugal is one of the defining characteristics of the Cidades do Vinho contest. Associating quality wine production with the best that is produced in each territory is its main purpose», according to the Câmara de Lagoa.

Those interested in participating in the event can still register until the 30th of October. This period was, moreover, extended, due to the large influx and “the number of producers who still intend to enter their wines in the competition”.

According to Luís Encarnação, mayor of Lagoa, this competition «is an opportunity for the Algarve and for Algarve wines, of excellent quality».

Drawing attention to the evidence of vitality given by Algarve wine tourism, the mayor believes that this sector "could make an enormous contribution to mitigating the consequences of seasonality so present in the Algarve region".
Luís Encarnação also announced that the municipalities of Lagoa, Albufeira, Silves and Lagos are preparing to submit a joint application to the European City of Wine 2022.

The “Cities of Wine 2020” Contest has the High Sponsorship of the President of the Republic and the institutional support of the Ministry of Agriculture.
