Three social solidarity institutions will share among themselves a contribution that could reach 50 thousand euros, resulting from the initiative golf for good of the European Tour, which this week will be held at the Portugal Masters, the most important Portuguese golf tournament, which is taking place in Vilamoura.

Vilamoura World, a partner in the tournament that counts for the 2020 Dubai Race, believes it can distribute 25 euros to two local social institutions – Existir, designated by Vilamoura World itself, and APEXA, nominated by Turismo de Portugal.

For each birdie accomplished by the stars of the European professional circuit who compete in the Algarve, a sum of 200 euros will be awarded, as well as 500 euros for each eagle stamped on the 17th hole (a Par-5), at the Dom Pedro Victoria Golf Course, in Vilamoura.

The European Tour will contribute, in turn, with an equal amount, doubling the amount, allowing the EDGA (European Disabled Golf Association) to maintain its long-term partnership with the status of official social solidarity institution of the Portugal Masters. In this way, an amount of at least 16.666 euros will be guaranteed to each of these three institutions.

The initiative golf for good was released in the six tournaments of the UK swing and raised a total of 67.384,20 euros for social solidarity programs at local, national and international levels.

golf for good aims to give back to society in three main sectors – supporting the communities through which the European Tour passes; reward the real heroes of the COVID-19 pandemic, such as the so-called front-line workers; and further promote the many health benefits of golfing that golf offers.

The three charities that will collect funds through Portugal Masters promote social inclusion in different ways and benefit the citizens of their local communities, but also have actions throughout the entire national territory.

APEXA's mission is to promote the inclusion of people with and without disabilities in the Algarve, in the areas of health, rehabilitation, leisure, sport, education, training and work. It promotes the right to equal opportunities and improved quality of life, prioritizing personal satisfaction and fulfillment.

Existir is a social solidarity institution based in Loulé, which has been operating for over 25 years and supports people and families in need throughout the region. Its mission is to develop responses adapted to populations with disabilities, citizens and families in economic and social need in the Algarve region, raising the level of physical, mental and social well-being and contributing to the improvement of their quality of life.

EDGA is a voluntary non-profit organization active in promoting and providing opportunities for citizens with disabilities to experience, practice and compete in golf. EDGA started, since the end of 2017, in Vila Sol, a model of participation in Portugal with funds resulting from its partnership with the Portugal Masters and the European Tour.

In Portugal, EDGA has provided training to 25 support staff and physiotherapists to help position golf in the sports offer for people with disabilities. The aim is to change the public's perception of golf and implement the various benefits of its practice for the health of people with disabilities. Facilities and staff are trained in Portuguese and then receive the necessary equipment and resources to carry out the sessions in their own facilities.
