Emanuel Pombo and Marta Simões win downhill race in São Brás

Emanuel Pombo (Miranda Factory Team) and Marta Simões (CAJ Raposa) won this Sunday, September 6, in the elite category, the first race of the Portugal Downhill Cup (DHI), held in São Brás de Alportel. Gonçalo Bandeira (Miranda Factory Team) was the most outstanding runner, winning the junior category and achieving the absolute best record of the journey.

The elite men's competition began with Francisco Pardal (BlackJack Factory Team) imposing himself in the qualifying heat. However, in the descent that decides the classification, it was Madeiran Emanuel Pombo who flew the highest, concluding the 1950-metre descent, on the Arimbo track, in 2 minutes 45,641 seconds.

Briton Brett Wheeler (MCF/XDream/Municipality of São Brás) was second, at 5,800 seconds. Francisco Pardal did not confirm his qualification promises in the final and finished in third place, 5,854 seconds behind the winner.

The elite women's competition had only two competitors. Marta Simões was the fastest, with 4 minutes 48,46 seconds, 12,563 seconds less than Joana Nunes (House of the People of Abrunheira).

 

Gonçalo Bandeira

 

Gonçalo Bandeira won the race in juniors, but he did more than that. It achieved the best record among the 64 cyclists of all age categories who competed in the final. Bandeira went down in 2 minutes 43,509 seconds, 4,415 seconds less than Nuno Reis (Miranda Factory Team) and 14,782 seconds less than João Baptista (Bike House DH Team Guimarães), who completed the podium.

Roi Jorge (Ciclos Quintela) was the best cadet this afternoon, while in the veteran categories, master 30 Daniel Pombo, master 40 José Sousa (Casa do Povo de Abrunheira), master 50 José Salgueiro (MCF/XDream/ Municipality of S. Brás) and the master 60 Rui Portela.

The second competition of the DHI Portuguese Cup is scheduled for November 8th, in Tarouca. But on the 20th of September there will be more action, with the National DHI Championship, in Penha, Guimarães.
