Messines and Alcantarilha urban rehabilitation projects under public consultation

Public consultation runs until the 25th of September

The Urban Rehabilitation Operation (ORU) projects of São Bartolomeu de Messines and Alcantarilha will be in public consultation until the 25th of September, which include the draft regulations for municipal programs to support urban rehabilitation in those urban agglomerations.

This process «is developed within the scope of the creation of the Urban Rehabilitation Areas of Alcantarilha (ARU) and São Bartolomeu de Messines, and results from the approval by the Municipality of Silves, on 27 July 2020, of the proposed Rehabilitation Operation Urban of these localities. The implementation of these measures and actions provided for in the ARU, includes, among other benefits and support, the Support Program for the Improvement of Housing Conditions (PAHAB) and the Support Program for Social and Economic Dynamics (PADSE), whose regulation is now submitted to public discussion”, according to the Chamber of Silves.

Interested parties can find detailed information about the process in São Bartolomeu de Messines here. The details of the Alcantarilha ORU can be consulted on this link.

The Municipality of Silves emphasizes that “this important instrument is a mechanism to stimulate a change from the paradigm of new construction to that of urban regeneration and rehabilitation. It is intended, in this way, to enhance the urban space and its built heritage, while revitalizing the economic and social fabric».

«In this context, the municipal strategy of intervention in the ARUs of Alcantarilha and São Bartolomeu de Messines makes a commitment to the competitiveness and attractiveness of the territory for people and activities, promoting a dynamism with a penchant for innovation and creativity, articulating and recognizing the heritage diversity, specifically its potential for exploitation, in a sustainable and requalified context in terms of public space and living conditions, in a participatory, inclusive framework of justice and social cohesion”, concluded the municipality of Silvense.
