National exam averages rise, only two subjects register worse results

In the Biology and Geology test, the most held this year and important for students who want to enter Medicine, the average increased by 3,3 points

The averages in this year's national exams rose in all subjects compared to last year, with the exception of two tests, according to official data released today.

According to data from the National Examination Jury, today released by the Ministry of Education, the average grades in 12th grade exams carried out by in-house students (those who attended classes throughout the school year) have risen this year in almost all disciplines, with some registering an increase of more than three values.

In the Biology and Geology exam, the most held this year and important for students who want to enter Medicine, the average increased by 3,3 points, registering an average rating of 14 points.

Also in Physics and Chemistry, students were able to improve their results in relation to the previous year by 3,2 points, passing the average score from 10 points to 13,2 points.

In an opposite trend, the only decreases were registered in the results of the Descriptive Geometry A tests, whose average classification fell by 2,3 points, and in Mathematics Applied to Social Sciences, which registered this year the only negative average classification: 9,5 less 1,5 compared to 2019.

Portuguese and Mathematics A, two of the most important tests, also registered improvements, albeit not so significant: in Portuguese the average rose from 11,8 points in 2019 to 12 points, and Mathematics increased from 11,5 points to 13,3 points , XNUMX values.

The biggest increase was registered in French, which went from 11,3 values ​​in 2019 to 15,1 (plus 3,8 values), followed by German with 16,1 values ​​(plus 3,5), Geography A with 13,6, 3,3 values ​​and Biology and Geology (both registered XNUMX more values).

The highest average was recorded in Mandarin (initiation), with the six students who took the test achieving an average grade in the exam of 16,9 points.

Among subjects with more than 2.500 students, it was English that students achieved the best average rating, with 15 points.

History A and History of Arts Culture rose again this year, after dropping to negative values ​​in 2018, now averaging 13,4 values ​​and 13,6 values, respectively.

In a statement also released today, the Institute for Educational Assessment (IAVE), responsible for the preparation and application of tests in schools, underlines that this year students took the national final exams only in the subjects they chose as entrance exams, thus justifying the results positive.

The new rules, applied this year as an exceptional measure due to the covid-19 pandemic, also explain the lower number of registrants, in relation to the previous year, which was reflected in the also lower number of tests carried out.

This year the exams took place in 643 schools across the national territory and in schools abroad with Portuguese curriculum, with 257.330 enrollments in the first phase of the national exams (70.300 less than in 2019) and 227.962 tests (93.871 less).

“Among the 24 subjects subject to national examination, the one that registered the largest number of tests carried out was Biology and Geology, with 41 460 tests, soon followed by Physics and Chemistry A, with 39 444 tests, Portuguese, with 36 622 tests , and Mathematics A, with 35 724 tests ”, details the organization in a statement.

The classification of the exams involved 9.400 secondary school teachers and during the first phase of the national exams, which was concluded on July 23, 10 vigilant teachers belonging to the exams secretariats of the schools collaborated.
