Shark alert raises red flag at three beaches in Tavira

On the beaches of Terra Estreita, Barril and Ilha de Tavira

The alleged sighting by locals of a shark at Terra Estreita beach, in Tavira, Algarve, led, on Sunday afternoon, to the raising of the red flag in three beaches for about an hour and a half. During this period a personal watercraft traveled along the coast, but found no animals.

Rui Andrade, captain of the Tavira Captaincy, told JN that the alert was given by the lifeguard at Terra Estreita beach, located in Santa Luzia, Tavira, around 13.20 hours, following reports from bathers who said they had seen a shark approaching the coast.
