Portugal's exclusion from the air corridor with the United Kingdom is a "hard blow" for the Algarve

UK decision "affects fate's image"

The exclusion of Portugal from the list of countries considered safe by the United Kingdom «it is a blow for the hotel industry and for all activities related to tourism», considers João Soares, representative of the Portuguese Hotel Association in the Algarve.

The hotelier, speaking to the Sul Informação, considers that this is "a worrying decision that we do not yet know when it will be re-evaluated".

With this decision, explains João Soares, "we were reduced to the Portuguese, Spanish and other small issuers".

“We already knew it wouldn't be a good year. We had a good part of the summer already lost, namely the months of July and part of August. Therefore, it was essential that we were included in the corridor, even because of the image of destiny», he adds.

To help combat this bad image, which can affect the arrival of tourists from other places, «AHP proposed to the Algarve Tourism Region and the Algarve Tourism Association, and this is already being worked on, to bring journalists from abroad, to show on-site visit that this is a safe region», concludes João Soares.

João Fernandes, president of Turismo do Algarve, has also reacted to Portugal's exclusion from the UK's published list of safe countries to travel, considering it “particularly unfair”.

Elidérico Viegas, president of the Association of Hotels and Touristic Enterprises of the Algarve, considers that the region "is being harmed by outbreaks of infection in the Lisbon area".
