Faro allows widening of outdoor terraces and detachable balconies

Expansion of terraces subject to submission of proposal to the local authority and compliance with conditions

The restaurants, cafes and bars of the municipality of Faro which already had esplanades authorized by the local authority, can go back to work since yesterday, May 18, «with the dimensions previously licensed, and the distance of two meters between tables must be complied with».

But the Municipality may also allow the enlargement of the authorized spaces for the esplanades «up to twice the area previously allocated, without additional charges, when possible, in order to respect the imposed measures of social distancing and, at the same time, allow an increase in capacity of these commercial establishments', announced today the Chamber of Faro.

This expansion is “subject to the submission of a proposal and compliance with several conditions, namely the strict observance of norms regarding accessibility and mobility, safety, circulation of car traffic, access and circulation of emergency and assistance vehicles or authorization of building owners that border directly on these areas».

The use of masks is also mandatory inside the various establishments, as well as the distance between employees and customers and the disinfection of hands when entering and leaving spaces.

The county's commercial establishments, within which it is not possible to comply with the distancing measures between employees and customers, may also exceptionally request the occupation of public roads, in order to place a sales counter there, or another, store-type Pop-Up, detachable and temporary.

Any request for clarification regarding this matter should be dealt with the Toponymy and Public Road Occupation Service, of the Department of Urban Planning of the Municipality of Faro, preferably by electronic means, by sending a communication to the address [email protected], by phone, by calling 289 870 870 or in person, by appointment.

The City Council of Faro, in partnership with the Association of Commerce and Services of the Algarve Region (ACRAL), the Commercial Development Association of the Historic Area of Faro (Associação Comércio da Baixa), Association of Hotel and Similar Industries of the Algarve (AIHSA) and the Cultural and Activist Association of Baixa de Faro (OCAB), is also developing a set of initiatives with the aim of giving consumers back the confidence to attend the county's traditional shops and restaurants.

In addition to monitoring the resumption of activity, the municipality will provide all participating establishments with equipment with a disinfectant gel dispenser for proper hand hygiene. Interested parties can obtain further clarification through the Helpline Faro – Covid 19 (800 219 019).

These temporary measures of an exceptional nature apply until the 3rd of December of this year, «with the possible need for renewal being evaluated on that date».
