The Algarve business incubators met again, this time online, in a session where the economic crisis caused by the Covid-19 pandemic was at the center of the debate.

This was the third informal meeting of the Algarve entities that host and support startups and young growing companies, organized by the Algarve STP Association (Systems and Technology Partnership) and by the University of Algarve, within the scope of the Algarve TechHub. Before, there had already been exchanges of ideas in Loule and in Portimão.

This time, in addition to representatives from the Algarve incubators, representatives from CCDR and IAPMEI also participated.

«The agenda of this third informal meeting was specifically designed for these circumstances, focusing on the difficulties associated with the new coronavirus and the problems faced by incubators and incubated companies», revealed Algarve STP.

The main objective was “to create a dynamic of informal mutual help and the exchange of experiences and solutions that can be useful to overcome this crisis situation”.

At this meeting, the association “proposed an agenda focused on three main points: Difficulties registered by the incubated companies; Measures implemented for each incubator; and Difficulties not yet overcome».

Each incubator revealed the measures it took to reduce the impact on companies and, according to Algarve STP, «all reacted with measures to continue, even remotely and routinely, the activity of dynamization for companies. For process efficiency, this meeting used tools for online sharing and retrospective analysis of ideas».

«For this purpose, a specific Whatsapp group was created, also open to the participation of incubators that were unable to attend the meeting online. To be added to this group, simply contact Algarve STP to obtain authorization ([email protected])», according to the association.

Start Up Portimão also took the opportunity to announce the start of the first 1st Online Acceleration Bootcamp in Algarve to stimulate the entrepreneurial spirit in time of pandemic, which takes place on April 21st.

The Algarve incubators have already scheduled a new meeting, for the 14th of May, in Faro, "if the emergency situation permits". Otherwise, the meeting will once again take place online.

The ASTP Association is a non-profit private association that brings together public and private members. Its members are: University of Algarve, ANJE, Municipal Council of Faro, Loulé City Council, Portimão City Council, DOCAPESCA, and the Algarve Evolution Association, with new adhesions being planned shortly.

This complex has as its objective, among others, the development and consolidation of the Algarve's Innovation Ecosystem, based on a strong structured partnership between associations, entities and companies.

Algarve STP is the entity that assumes, in the region, the functions of a Digital Innovation Hub, the fourth entity recognized in the country by the European Union, and aims to create strong links between companies and scientific research institutions, acting on the European level and exploring areas of technology.

The session was organized under the KCITAR project, funded by the CRESC Algarve programme.
