Algarve Biomedical Center has already tested 14 nursing homes in seven Algarve municipalities

There are, so far, no more positive cases among users and employees of the homes

Users and employees of 14 nursing homes in the municipalities of Albufeira, Alcoutim, Lagos, Loulé, Olhão, Portimão and São Brás de Alportel have already been tested with Covid-19, by the Algarve Biomedical Center (ABC), revealed this Friday, the president of the Regional Health Administration (ARS) of the Algarve, at the weekly press conference at the headquarters of the Regional Emergency and Civil Protection Command of the Algarve, in Loulé.

From this screening campaign in homes, it became known that, in the Home of Santa Casa da Misericórdia in Boliqueime, in addition to its director, there were 21 positive users, as well as «three more employees», as explained today by the regional delegate for Health in the Algarve, at the same press conference.

Yesterday, the decontamination of the second floor of the home was carried out, in an operation which starts the Sul Informação followed. This decontamination, added Ana Cristina Guerreiro, is intended to "ensure that all users can live there, but in separate wards."

Currently, and as a containment measure, the people whose tests were negative are staying in a hotel in Vilamoura, with the positives and the inconclusive cases remaining in the home, although separate.

The official also said that today "two more cases" were known confirmed relating to the home of Boliqueime, but added that this is "within what was expected. It is natural that the transition from negative to positive can happen». Health authorities are now paying “double attention to symptomatology”, and new tests have also been carried out for inconclusive cases.

In any case, underlined the regional Health delegate, corroborating what had been announced yesterday by the mayor of Loulé, «the symptoms of the elderly in this home who are confirmed cases has been mild», and only one of them needed to be admitted to the hospital in Faro.

In the other homes where the tests have already been done by ABC technicians, “no positive case has emerged” so far, guaranteed Ana Cristina Guerreiro. «Mostly they are negative and there is one or another inconclusive».

Among the homes subject to screening, there is the case of home of the Santa Casa da Misericórdia in Vila Real de Santo António, where a confirmed case had arisen, of a technician from the external maintenance of this IPSS. to what the Sul Informação found that the tests performed were negative, for all employees and users.

Today, Good Friday, all users of the Home for the Elderly of Santa Casa da Misericórdia in São Brás de Alportel, as well as all employees, were tested.

According to the Municipality of São Brás de Alportel, a team of six professionals from the Algarve Biomedical Center, transported “in three ambulances provided by the São Brasenses Volunteer Firefighters”, carried out “156 tests, in an intensive three-hour journey, accompanied by the Municipal Civil Protection Service” of this municipality.
