Finalists of the Medicine course at the University of Algarve reinforce the SNS24 line

These professionals also received prior training on coronaviruses and on the screening algorithm

About 100 students of the Integrated Masters in Medicine (MIM) course at the University of Algarve (UAlg), in partnership with the ABC-Algarve Biomedical Center, responded promptly to the crisis situation and will reinforce the Health 24 line.

This Sunday, the 15th, this group will be operational and answering calls from the Algarve, collaborating in this national emergency situation.

Like the Sul Informação yesterday, this reinforcement was announced, at a press conference, by the Assistant Secretary of State and Health Jamila Madeira, as a way of increasing the response to the high demand for the service.

«During this week an algorithm was created», which «allowed to streamline the response system», going from «200 simultaneous calls to 500 simultaneous calls, and today to 1200 simultaneous calls. We are working to reach 2000 simultaneous calls». said Jamila Madeira yesterday.

The UAlg group is composed of final year students of the Medicine course, holders of a previous degree in the area of Health or Science, which, stresses the university, «gives them the maturity and knowledge necessary for the task they will perform, either at the level of the call center, ensuring telephone calls, recording and analysis, both in terms of response and referral of suspected cases».

In addition, adds UAlg, "these professionals have also undergone prior training on coronaviruses and on the screening algorithm."

They will be divided into 30 simultaneous service stations, operating from Altice's facilities, in Faro, for the whole country, from 06:00 to 24:00.

The University of Algarve (UAlg) and the ABC-Algarve Biomedical Center will thus contribute «to strengthen the service capacity at the national level, joining efforts at a critical moment for the Country and for the World».

The Algarve Biomedical Center is a consortium between the University of Algarve and the University Hospital Center of the Algarve, which aims to bring together researchers, students, health professionals and representatives of entities linked to education, training, scientific research and regional development, with the aim of improving of health care.
