Head found in Tavira and body in Sagres

The Judiciary Police is awaiting the results of forensic examinations to confirm that the head and body belong to the same person

A severed head in Tavira, a decapitated body in Sagres. Both may belong to the same man and were found yesterday, Thursday, in these two locations, which are about 150 kilometers apart.

Authorities were looking for a 21-year-old who disappeared a few days ago. The boy's vehicle was found yesterday morning, parked near Cabo de S. Vicente, near Sagres, and then the Instituto de Socorro a Náufragos began hitting the coast, by land and sea.

Second told the Sul Informação the captain of the port of Lagos, yesterday, at 15 pm, the searches allowed to find, «at the base of a cliff, near Cabo de S. Vicente», a dismembered body, whose identity is not yet confirmed.

"Half the body was wrapped in plastic," said the port captain, adding that "given the way in which the body was found, the Judiciary Police were contacted," which is now investigating.

However, also yesterday, at almost the same time, a second discovery was made, of a human head, near the Pego do Inferno waterfall, in the interior of the municipality of Tavira.

According to SIC, the macabre discovery was made by a couple of French tourists, who were walking in the area. The GNR searched with a tracking dog, but found nothing else.

The investigation of both cases is now under the responsibility of the Southern Directorate of the Judiciary Police. Awaiting the results of forensic examinations to confirm that the body parts belong to the same person.
