Bike path designed by cyclist Ricardo Mestre inaugurated tomorrow in Castro Marim

In preparation, there is another section of cycle path with 5 km

The Lezíria Cycle Route, which connects Castro Marim to the Monte Gordo and Vila Real de Santo António, will be inaugurated this Friday, the 28th, at 10 am.

The Castro Marim City Council, responsible for creating the infrastructure, reveals that the Ciclovia da Lezíria «has the privilege of having the signature of cyclist Ricardo Mestre, a name from Castro Marim well known by the public for his presence and achievements in cycling».

The opening ceremony will take place next to Revelim de Santo António, in Castro Marim, overlooking the cycling infrastructure, located along the EN122, which will thus link Castro Marim to Vila Real de Santo António "in this more sustainable way".

The track is three kilometers long, allowing access to the interior of the Reserva do Sapal. The work was supported by PO CRESC Algarve 2020, the PADRE project, supported by Portugal and the European Union, 70% co-financed by the FEDER.

The municipality emphasizes that «the sustainable project is more ambitious and aims to create a green cycling triangle: Castro Marim – Vila Real de Santo António – Praia Verde».

The stretch from Castro Marim to Praia Verde is already in competition, a project estimated at around 850 euros, with a contribution from the PO CRESC Algarve 2020, the PADRE project, supported by Portugal and the European Union, 70% co-financed by the FEDER.

Located on the EN 125-6, the access road to the parish of Altura and the IC27, this cycle path should have a length of about 5 kilometers and its creation is part of a project to enhance the road, namely in the widening and repaving and in improving drainage'.

«The creation of new cycling infrastructure is intended to be interconnected with the sporting and cultural policies and development of the municipality of Castro Marim, in a perspective of valuing the natural, but also the cultural and built heritage», concludes the local Chamber.
