The renovation works of Fonte da Mesquita and Lavadouro da Mesquita Alta, in São Brás de Alportel, will be inaugurated on Sunday, February 2, at 16 pm.
These rehabilitation works were carried out within the scope of a partnership between the City Council and the Parish Council of São Brás de Alportel, which continues the municipal project “Memories of the Earth”, which “allowed, in recent years, to requalify a number of spaces, such as Fonte Nova and Lavadouro, in the historic center of the town, Fonte Velha, in the Mealhas site, or Poço Madruga, in the mountainous area of the county», revealed the São Brasense autarchy.
According to the Chamber, the requalification of Fonte da Mesquita was a "long-awaited work" and came "to enhance this relevant element of the county's rural heritage, of great importance in the memory of the local community."
To carry out the work, the Municipality and the Parish Council of São Brás de Alportel submitted an application to the PDR2020 (Program for Rural Development in Portugal) within the scope of the operation to support the renewal of villages, a program coordinated at regional level by the In Loco association.
The works cost around 50 thousand euros and included repair work on the Washer there, «with the replacement of the roof by a structure in wood and ceramic tiles from the region»
The «definition of new pavements and delimitation of the road network were also carried out with a view to a more efficient and safe pedestrian and road circulation, planting of trees, installation of new urban furniture, vertical and horizontal signage and the implementation of the rain and rainwater network. irrigation network.
The ceremony will also feature "a moment of evocation of memory and conviviality".
