This Saturday, December 14th, Castro Marim hosted the 2nd Encounter of Songs to the Child at the Igreja Matriz de Nossa Senhora dos Mártires, by the Associação Amendoeiras em Flor.
There were many songs of praise and adoration to the Child, brought by the groups Cancioneiro Tradicional Amendoeiras em Flor – Castro Marim, Folklore and Ethnographic Group of Belide (Condeixa – Baixo Mondego), Cultural and Ethnographic Association Gentes de Almeirim (Almeirim – Ribatejo), Choir del Carmen – Punta del Moral (Ayamonte).
The 2nd Meeting of Cantares ao Menino was organized by the Amendoeiras em Flor Cultural Association, with the support of the Castro Marim City Council, Castro Marim Parish Council and the Portuguese Folklore Federation.
The singing exhibition, from north to south of the country and passing through neighboring Andalusia, encompasses many of the cultural differences existing in our country, where each region has a specific Christmas identity, but a unifying feeling and this is the message that the Parish of Santiago intends to transmit at the reception of the initiative.
The Castro Marim City Council has also recently supported the publication of a record work by this association, resulting from collections carried out on the theme of traditional Algarve Christmas carols, considering the importance of this record in safeguarding and dignifying the intangible cultural heritage of the Algarve.
This was the first public initiative after Associação Cultural Amendoeiras em Flor was awarded the status of a member of the Portuguese Folklore Federation, whose formalization is yet to take place. This is the result and elevation of the work, commitment and commitment that the Association has had towards the cultural identity of the territory.
