Olhão is filled with poetry from the four corners of the world

The edition of books with authors who have been in Poesia a Sul is one of the big news

Seven dozen poets, from 31 countries, will visit Olhão until the 27th, in another edition of Poesia a Sul, which began yesterday. In 2019, the event's organizers maintain their strong focus on the international component and on the dissemination of the work of some of the writers present.

The launch of the collection South Poetry Authors it is, moreover, one of the great novelties of the 5th edition of this international festival. Three books are already available – and free of charge –: “Edifício Nautilus”, by the Spanish Imna Luna (nº1, bilingual edition), “Ventos”, by the Vietnamese Chi Trung (nº2) and “Missa Branca”, by Fernando Cabrita, who is from the Netherlands. , equally, the main promoter of the event – ​​«who leaves and shares and doesn't get the best part…», joked the Algarve poet, yesterday, at the launch of the event.

The idea is fatten the collection, from year to year, always with poets who have already been present in Poesia a Sul. «We want more authors to follow and that more and more countries are represented in the collection», said Fernando Cabrita

«Before, we were already editing poetry notebooks, which have a very important international character. In them, we edited 15 to 20 poets of different nationalities, without repeating any. The sixth notebook came out today. As they are free, this allows the poetry to be internationalized, for each poet to take some copies to his/her country», he added.

As to SCHEDULE, Fernando Cabrita guarantees that “everything is important”, but highlights some of the initiatives included in the program.

First, the two shows that the Municipal Auditorium of Olhão will host, as part of Poesia a Sul. «The show by ambassador Lauro Moreira, on the 25th, at the Municipal Auditorium, is very important. It is called “Vozes Poéticas da Lusofonia” and is a recital of the great poets of the Portuguese language. This Saturday, the 19th, we have Amar Guitarra».

Until the 27th, a collective exhibition of painting and drawing is on display at the José Mariano Gag Municipal Library, bringing together works by Michael Augustin, Hans Wap, Tineke Storteboom and Paulo Gago.

"Those who walk around Olhão will be able to enjoy excerpts from poems by authors who have already been here, which we have placed on the garden benches," added the poet from Olhão.

 

 

The 2019 edition of the event will also be marked by Poetry's first incursions to the South beyond the borders – the Algarve and the country.

«We will have a trip to Seville, to the Consulate General, to honor a great Spanish poet, and a trip to Beja, to the José Saramago Library. Poesia a Sul will go beyond its usual borders, we are expanding our scope of action», according to the promoter of the initiative.

“We want the poetry of the world to arrive here in Portugal, as is happening, but that the poets, when they return to their countries, take Portuguese poetry with them”, he reinforced.

Yesterday, Poesia a Sul also formalized the twinning with other poetry festivals, namely the La Lyre Emigree (Russia), the Edita – Ibero-American Festival of Edition, Poetry and the Arts (Spain) and with the Foundation Peter the Great (Belgium/Russia).
