Silves applies "innovative energy efficiency measures" in municipal swimming pools

The work includes four components

The Municipality of Silves has already started the contract for the “Optimization of the Energy Efficiency of Municipal Swimming Pools” project, which will allow the implementation of “innovative measures”.

The work includes four components: installation of a solar thermal system, installation of a photovoltaic system, replacement of the pumping system (19 centrifugal pumps) and replacement of the existing lighting with LED.

The solar thermal system will be used to heat the water in the swimming pools and the hot sanitary water used for bathing users, covering around 44% of the current needs of the facilities and avoiding the emission of 49,45 tons of carbon dioxide per year.

The creation of an electric energy production plant through photovoltaic conversion will allow the supply of 182.721 KWh per year and the reduction of greenhouse gases (GHG) by 39,3 tons per year.

Replacing circulation pumps with highly energy efficient equipment will provide annual savings of 90.822,49 Kwh, corresponding to a reduction of 33,02 tons per year of greenhouse gases (GHG).

The replacement of fluorescent lamps by LED lamps (86 luminaires and 493 lamps by LED) will reduce energy consumption by 48.102 KWh and the reduction of greenhouse gases (GHG) by 22,3 tons per year.

The savings, after the implementation of this project, will be around 70 thousand euros, estimates the municipality of Silvense.

The project is funded under CRESC 2020.

The total investment is around 556 thousand euros, benefiting from financial support from the European Union through the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) divided by refundable (and non-refundable) subsidy in the amounts of 361 485,36 euros and 4 607,11 euros, respectively.
