PCP demands "speedy" measures from the Government to restore normality in maternity hospitals

At dawn this Sunday, a 28-week-old pregnant woman had to be transferred to Évora

The PCP demands, on the part of the Government, «speedy and decisive measures to ensure that the maternity hospitals in Faro and Portimão can function normally».

In this sense, the communists, through deputies Paulo Sá, elected by the Algarve, and Carla Cruz questioned the minister of Health about what measures will be taken by António Costa's executive, «namely in terms of human resources».

On the 27th of June, after a visit to the Pediatrics Service of the Hospital de Portimão, the Parliamentary Group of the PCP asked a question “to the Ministry of Health, warning of the serious consequences of the shortage of pediatricians, whether in the Pediatric Emergency Department, or in the birth block of the Hospital de Portimão».

A few days later, the maternity hospital at Portimão Hospital was closed (on the weekend of 6/7 July), which, according to a statement from the University Hospital Center of the Algarve (CHUA), was due to the fact that “no be possible to guarantee the support of a pediatrician with competences in the field of neonatology in that unit”.

At dawn this Sunday, remember, a pregnant, 28 weeks, had to be transferred to Évora due to the overcrowding of the Maternity of Faro and the closing of Portimão.

O psd/Faro and the CDS/PP they have also come out in public to criticize the current health situation in the Algarve.
