CDS says that the case of a pregnant woman transferred to Évora is of «absolute gravity»

CDS-PP says, in a statement, that "it faces these facts with great concern"

The CDS/PP wants to know what measures the Government will take to resolve the current situation of maternity hospitals in the Algarve, classifying the the transfer of a 28-week pregnant woman to Évora as “absolutely serious”.

In this sense, the centrists, in a note sent to the newsrooms, said that deputies João Rebelo (head of the list for the Algarve in the next Legislatives), Teresa Caeiro (elected by the circle of Faro, in 2015) and Isabel Galriça Neto asked the Health Minister this Monday, 8 July, in writing, about this situation.

At dawn this Sunday, remember, a pregnant, 28 weeks, had to be transferred to Évora due to the overcrowding of the Maternity of Faro and the closing of Portimão.

«Pregnant women sent from Portimão to Faro they are required to cover 68 kilometers by highway. However, exhausting its service capacity, the Hospital de Faro forwards pregnant women to Hospital de Évora, 224 kilometers away”, recall the centrists.

The CDS-PP says, in the same communiqué, that “it faces these facts with great concern, considering it is absolutely necessary and priority to ensure both access to health and the quality of healthcare provision to the population, which, in this case, clearly, it still doesn't happen».

In the same question, the deputies of the CDS-PP also want the minister to confirm that there is a national competition for admission of medical personnel to the hospital area, with two vacancies being open for pediatricians at the University Hospital Center of the Algarve (CHUA).

Afterwards, and being recognized by the Board of Directors of CHUA that, in order to solve the problem of the lack of pediatricians, it will eventually be necessary to resort to companies providing medical services, the CDS-PP MPs questioned the reasons for the problem persists and what measures have already been taken to put these contracts into effect.

Without prejudice to the questions already raised on “Lack of pediatricians in the maternity hospital of Portimão”, of 12 June, “and due to the worrying increase in cases that put the health of the Portuguese at risk, the CDS-PP believes it is extreme urgently obtain clarification from the Minister of Health».

The PSD/Faro has also come to the public to criticize the current health situation in the Algarve.
