Aljezur fire consumed 200 hectares of forest and scrub

Fire forced the evacuation of houses in the area, but was subdued nearly 5 hours later

The fire of Monte Clérigo, in Aljezur, which broke out last Friday, July 19th, consumed 200 hectares of forest and bush. 

Meeting this Tuesday, 23 July, the municipality decided to express a "vote of praise and recognition" to the Civil Protection agents who managed to put out the fire.

«In an exemplary way, the more than 250 workers of the various entities fought this fire, where around 200 hectares of forest and bush were consumed», reinforces the municipality.

"The work carried out in the prevention of fuel management lanes, by local authorities and private individuals, in this area, as well as the muscular and coordinated response of the means involved, was decisive so that the outcome of this fire was no longer serious, with no regret the loss of life and housing», says the City Council.

The Aljezur City Council «recognizes and commends all the operatives and agents, from the various entities, involved in this firefighting at Monte Clérigo, as well as the direction and associates of the Humanitarian Association of Voluntary Firefighters of Aljezur and all the civilians who responded, in a prompt manner, to the various calls for collaboration».
