Évora Contemporary Dance Company takes “Ensaio sobre a Cegueira” to the Market

“Ensaio sobre a Cegueira” is inspired by the work with the same title by José Saramago

The Contemporary Dance Company of Évora premieres on the 3rd of August, at 22 pm, the new show “Ensaio sobre a Cegueira”, at the Municipal Market.

“Ensaio sobre a Cegueira” is inspired by the work with the same title by José Saramago, and is the culmination of a path of choreographic experimentation, around the behavior of the human body in situations of crisis and violence.

Inner conflicts, fear, individualism as a natural way of existing, ethical and moral issues associated with behavior in society, list the thematic and behavioral nature of dancers.

With a format similar to artistic, choreographic installation, the creation presents an experimental language, both at the visual level and at the level of positioning the body in movement and in the scene.

The key elements of Saramago's work appear as inductors of the dramaturgical language, which develops a metaphor about individual and collective human behavior, in a contemporary discourse on the human condition.

The interpretation is in charge of three dancers who assume different characters from Saramago's work. The costumes are designed by José António Tenente and the lighting design will be done by Nuno Meira. The sound environment is the result of a creation by Gonçalo Almeida Andrade, developed within the work by the dancers.

The work was developed in several artistic residencies, which were associated with a program of educational and awareness-raising actions aimed at different age groups.

These moments allowed the content to be confronted with the public in different states of creation and, at the same time, promoted the awareness and creation of publics.

After the debut, the creation leaves for a journey of national and international circulation.
