Carlos Martins, Secretary of State for the Environment, resigned from the Government, this Thursday, April 4, after the controversial appointment of a cousin to his deputy, in 2016.

The resignation of Carlos Martins, former chairman of the Board of Directors of Águas do Algarve, has already been accepted by Prime Minister António Costa and by Matos Fernandes, Minister of Environment and Energy Transition.

«Among these, the process of merging municipal water management systems, the new water resources management plans, the conduction of the territory's adaptation process to climate change and a new waste management policy should be highlighted. solid urban areas, based on the principles of the circular economy», he says.

«In the context of the Ministry's policies, the generous and enlightened action of Carlos Martins was of capital importance and leaves a legacy for the future that we will continue, develop and deepen», concludes Matos Fernandes.

This resignation comes after Armindo dos Santos Alves, cousin of Carlos Martins, also left the Government.
