After the launch in Aljezur Castle, DiVaM starts in Milreu and Alcalar

Programming integrates 26 cultural projects, from 23 entities, organized in 52 activities, to be carried out throughout the year, in 7 monuments

«Perpetual movements of immortal seeds – the classics travel to the present in the poetry of Anne Carson and Nunes da Rocha» is the title of the first lecture of the cycle «Amatores In Situ – the Ancient World seen by those who love it», scheduled for 24 April, at 18 pm, at the Roman Ruins of Milreu, in Estoi (Faro).

With speaker Ana Isabel Soares, professor at the University of Algarve, and promoted by Cívis – Association for the Deepening of Citizenship, this is the activity that opens, this year, the DiVaM, program for the dissemination and enhancement of the Algarve's Monuments.

This will be followed, on May 4th, on a Saturday, between 10 am and 17:30 pm, more «A Day in Prehistory», at the Megalithic Monuments of Alcalar (Portimão), promoted by the Municipal Museum of Portimão and its Group of Friends, the GAMP.

In fact, DiVaM has even started, on the 13th, at Castelo de Aljezur, with the signing of protocols between the Regional Directorate of Culture of the Algarve and the 23 participating associations, followed by the performance of the XelbInSax Quartet, from the Artis XXI association, from Lagoa.

In all, there will be 52 activities, taking place from April to December (with interruption in the summer), at the Fortress of Sagres, Hermitage of Guadalupe, Castles of Aljezur, Paderne and Loulé, Megalithic Monuments of Alcalar and Roman Ruins of Milreu, the seven monuments under the tutelage of that regional direction.

There are «52 activities, but at this moment we have less than 52 weeks» until the end of the year, «so we will have more than one activity per week», explained Adriana Freire Nogueira, regional director of Culture of the Algarve, in an interview with Sul Informação and to Rádio Universitária do Algarve.

But the news for DiVaM 2019 does not stop there: this year there is more money and more associations. "We managed to increase the budget a little: we had 55 thousand euros, but we managed to reach 60 thousand, which also allows for this diversity and this boldness of some of the proposals", announced the official.

As for the new associations, there are four: Artis XXI, from Lagoa, Sociedade Filarmónica Lacobrigense 1º de Maio, from Lagos, Cineclube de Faro and Clube Farense, both from the Algarve capital. All others are "repeating".

And why continue to promote DiVaM? The intention of this program, explained Adriana Nogueira, is «to get people off the couch in their house to come to these spaces that are under the tutelage of the Regional Directorate of Culture. The original idea was to bring people closer to monuments and that's the idea we want to keep. DiVaM brought young people to the monuments, and not only through the associations that participate in the program's activities».

The fact is that, underlined the regional director, “we have to know to love and, when we love, we preserve. This is the sequence: knowing, loving, preserving».

For Adriana Nogueira, "the population has already become accustomed to monuments that are close to them", through DiVaM, "which has also brought a lot of people to monuments that are not close to them". The program even created «a network of activities in the monuments of the DRC Algarve, which cannot be missed».

In 2019, the generic theme chosen for the program is «The Journey». The idea is to commemorate the «500 years of the Circum-navigation voyage of Fernão de Magalhães», which this year marks itself.

«All the associations brought themes related to the journey: that it can be an interior journey, a journey through the music of many places», stressed Adriana Nogueira.

And what results has DiVaM given? The regional director of Culture points out that “the numbers [of visitors to the Algarve's monuments] have grown in recent years. I'm not saying that this has to do only with DiVaM, but also with the dynamics of tourism itself».

However, he underlined, “the monuments are not to be closed and anyone who visits them is a tourist, whether national, local or foreign. He is a tourist when he visits, when he leaves his couch». And until December 15th, with the performance of Trio Nelson Conceição, at the Ermida de Guadalupe (Vila do Bispo), there will be many pretexts to leave the divan at home and land in this DiVaM of culture.
