Loulé will have a network of shared electric bicycles. The investment is 480 thousand euros and the public tender has already been launched. Scooters is something that, «for now, is not being equated».

This network will have "several parking points spread throughout the city", explained Vítor Aleixo, mayor of Loulé, to the Sul Informação.

Faro, remember, implemented, last month, a network of electric scooters that is already working. Portimão, in turn, has also already announced that will have "soon" scooters.

In Loulé, the mayor assured, “for now” is something “that cannot be equated”.

The bet is, then, for the bicycles that “will be available to people as a way to invite them to change their means of transport”.

Victor Aleixo

«Loulé is a small town. The journeys do not go beyond three kilometers, making it a suitable city for us to be able to change from car to bicycle, always on a voluntary basis», explained Vítor Aleixo.

And when will the bicycle network be on the ground? The contest was launched on February 15th and runs over 45 days.

«At the moment, the contest is underway. Let's wait because, sometimes, there are situations related to the Court of Auditors and it is always difficult, in a public tender, to point out dates», said the mayor to our newspaper.

What is certain is that, after being implemented in Loulé, the idea involves «expanding the network to Quarteira», a city where even now there is a bike path that has been shrouded in controversy.

In both locations, the objective is “to bet on a mode of mobility that is smooth and correct”.

Still in the municipality of Loulé, Vale do Lobo already has a shared bicycle network, since May of last year, in an initiative of the municipal company Infralobo.
