Portimão will “soon” have 100 shared electric scooters. After Faro, the city of Portimo will be the second in the Algarve to adopt this «system of ecological and sustainable mobility aimed at the resident population and tourists visiting the city».

As explained by the Portimão Council, «the pilot phase of the project, which includes the installation of 15 “hotspots” (locations for survey and exchange), will operate on an experimental basis until next September, at which time an assessment will be made of its continuity and possible changes to the format of operation'.

The measure results from a collaboration agreement that was approved this Wednesday at a chamber meeting between the Municipality and the company Voi Techonology AB, which already operates in Faro.

The municipality emphasizes that the maximum speed of the scooters “should not exceed 20 km/hour, and the circuits, values and delivery and collection points for the scooters will be made public in due course”.

Electric scooters "must be made available and parked so as not to create obstructions in the public road or impede the traffic and flow of pedestrians, including people with reduced mobility", adds the municipality.

At the road and transit level, «users must comply with the provisions of the Highway Code and other legal and regulatory standards, as well as the recommendations of the Mobility and Transport Institute», concludes the City Council.
