Nature, sports, culture and gastronomy and wines are some of the tourist attractions that the Algarve will take to the Lisbon Tourism Exchange (BTL), between 13 and 17 March, at FIL, with «the aim of promoting wealth and diversity of the region's supply'.

According to the Algarve Tourism Region (RTA), the presence at this event «is based on a series of initiatives aimed at both professionals in the sector and the general public».

RTA explains that, «specifically prepared for the specialized public, there are moments such as the presentation of the “Observatory for Sustainable Tourism” (March 14, 14:00) with the presence of the Secretary of State for Tourism, Ana Mendes Godinho, and the president of the Algarve Tourism Region (RTA), João Fernandes».

Projects in the areas of nature will also be highlighted at the event, such as the “Algarve Nature Fest”, the “Junior Nature Tourism Guide”, the new “Algarve Pedestrian Route Guide”, the “Revitalize Monchique – tourism as a catalyst” and the “SustenTUR Algarve”. In the area of heritage, the focus is on the “Algarve by Choice” project and on culture for the “365 Algarve” program.

For the general public – for whom BTL opens its doors on the 15th, at 17 pm –, activities such as tasting of regional products, wine tasting, live music and two showcooking sessions are scheduled, within the scope of the “Algarve Cooking Vacations” project ”.

All activities take place at the Algarve stand (Pavilion 1), whose design, according to RTA, «remembers the landscapes of the Algarve's beaches and the region's luminosity, and in which the 16 Algarve municipalities and 20 hotels and tour operators are represented» .

João Fernandes, president of RTA, considers that «Algarve's participation in BTL is always an important moment for its reaffirmation as the main tourist destination in the country. It allows us to communicate directly with professionals and the general public and show the result of the partnership work between the entities and agents of the sector in favor of enriching the offer, quality and experiences of the region».

According to data from the National Institute of Statistics (INE), in 2018, the Algarve consolidated the positive tourist performance recorded over the last few years, with a year-on-year increase in total income of 4,7%, to 1081 million euros, and the number of guests of 1,5%, to 4,2. XNUMX million guests.
