the PS of Faro considers it "great irresponsibility" on the part of the Chamber to pass on the competence and charges arising from the greening of the Athletics Track of Faro for Sporting Clube Farense, after leaving it for years without maintenance.
The Socialists, through Paulo Neves, president of the municipality of Farense, criticize the Chamber, pointing out that since 2008, the year of the inauguration of this equipment, “a thorough maintenance of the lawn of the municipal athletics track has never been carried out, with the central lawn practically it has already disappeared».
In 2014, a protocol was signed between the municipality and Sporting Clube Farense, where it was agreed that the club would be responsible for the restoration of the turf, being able, in return, to use it as a training ground.
At the time, the PS approved the signing of this agreement and, as Paulo Neves now says, continues to agree with the measure, «in addition, because it will also have had the adhesion of the Algarve Athletics Association, according to its joint statement with Camara Municipal de Faro from yesterday".
"However, we believe that, after another five years (2014-2019) without the maintenance of this municipal equipment, to continue to endorse this competence and duties, now, for a club, it is very irresponsible, which we hope will not be the potential for future conflicts as the interpretation of this agreement, given the desire to maintain the mobilization of practitioners of other modalities, especially those related to athletics, in addition to football training by Farense», say the socialists.
What is certain is that it was Farense himself who, despite the agreement signed about five years ago, never carried out the field's grassland work. In 2015, the Chamber he even sent a letter to the club, asking when the works would advance, something that did not happen.
Even so, in the view of the socialists, «in Faro, in order to practice sport, clubs bear the costs of recovery and maintenance of sports equipment abandoned by the municipal executive 10 years ago».
