Athletics Track Faro_1The Chamber of Faro sent a letter to Farense to find out when, and if, the greening works for the city's Athletics Track will begin. António Barão, president of the club, had guaranteed the Sul Informação that the works would advance until the 20th of April, under a protocol between the municipality and the club, but the truth is that they have not started yet and the executive wants to know why.

According to Councilor Paulo Santos, the municipality has already sent a letter to Farense "to find out if the club is interested, and if it has the means to carry out the work and, if so, when?", and is now awaiting a response from the club .

The protocol signed between the club and the local authority it did not set a deadline for the beginning of the works, “perhaps wrongly”, assumes Paulo Santos. However, the agreement signed more than a year ago and which has a duration of ten years, can be terminated, according to the councilor, by one of the parties, 90 days in advance.

O Sul Informação contacted António Barão, but the president of Farense said he did not talk about the subject, sending explanations "to the rugby "guy", referring to the Rugby Club of the University of Algarve (CRUAL), which is one of the clubs that he uses that space and which has complained the most about the delay in the works.

Athletics Track Faro_2The responsible for CRUAL Ricardo Rafael, in turn, regrets the lack of developments and recalled that the club has already presented a solution to the local authority: «at the end of February, beginning of March, we sent the City Council a work plan to recover the turf, but we had no answer. I've already sent an email to the president, too, and there was no response. Last week, I went to the Chamber meeting and the answer was “a draw”».

According to Ricardo Rafael, the intervention proposed by CRUAL needed only «logistic and technical support from the Chamber», since the grass would be provided by golf courses in the region and the project was being developed by professors of Agronomy and Landscape Architecture at UAlg .

For the responsible of the rugby club, «Farense doesn't use the space, doesn't do it or lets it be done», and «because of a professional club, the work of amateur clubs is restricted».

Even because «it is protocoled that Farense is responsible for the maintenance of the track, and even that is not being done», denounces Ricardo Rafael.
