Concert with Luaty Beirão and Batida marks the beginning of “Encontros do DeVIR”

DeVIR meetings kick off in Loulé and will have a total of 11 shows

“Ikoqwe” is the concert of the Angolan activist Luaty Beirão (rapper Ikonoklasta) and Batida (project by Pedro Coquenão) which marks, at the Cine-Teatro Louletano, the start of the shows of the fifth edition of the Festival “Encontros do DeVIR”, next Saturday, February 23, at 21 pm.

On the same day, the colloquium "Denouncing the present, discussing the future", in the Auditorium of Solar da Música Nova, at 15:30 pm, and the exhibition “De(a)Nunciar, Aleixo Hoje”, a set of installations by José Laginha, artistic director of the Festival, opens.

José Laginha's works “address current issues, of a local and international scope that, according to the creator, would deserve the interest and attention of the poet António Aleixo, if he were our contemporary”, says Câmara de Loulé. This exhibition is on display at the Art Gallery of the Convento do Espírito Santo.

Loulé will not only host the opening of this festival, which has 11 shows, a workshop, two colloquiums and four exhibitions. In total, there will be 41 creations, 52 reflections by thinkers, researchers and creators from different areas (dance, astronomy, theater, politics, writing, cinema, among others) and from different countries.

The shows return to the city of Loulé on March 23, with an emphasis on dancing, also at the Cine-Teatro Louletano. “Material Men redux”, by Shobana Jeyasingh (India/England), is a show that explores, “in a dynamic and moving way, the violence of loss and the creation of new forms of belonging and integration”, explains the Loulé local authority.

On the 5th of April, «doing justice to its international character, and to the strong investment in dance», “Encontros do DeVIR” will present, in the same room, three new shows, all in national premiere: “Stepping Stones”, “ A Moment” and “Aqua” with Dutch, Belgian and Spanish creators and performers.

At the Cine-Teatro Louletano, the last presentation will take place on May 11th. “Le Terrier” is the creation of one of the great names in contemporary dance today, Samuel Lefreuvre and Florencia Demestri (Belgium).
