Pedro Lima distinguished with the Career Alumni award from the University of Algarve

After the award ceremony, there will be a solidarity lunch

Pedro Lima, graduated in Marine Biology and Fisheries, will receive the Carreira Alumni prize, awarded by the University of Algarve, in a public ceremony, on February 2nd, at 11:00 am, in the rectory's seminar room, on the Campus de Gambelas.

This is the third consecutive year that the Algarve academy has awarded the prize.

Pedro Lima is the founder of the company Sea4us, headquartered in Sagres, which won, last year the SME Instruments award from the Horizon 2020 program of the European Commission, worth 50 euros. With this, the company gained the possibility of deepening the development of a drug to alleviate those who constantly feel pain, and that it is an alternative to morphine and opioids.

Currently, Pedro Lima is still principal investigator in the Physiology department at Nova Medical School and visiting professor at the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Lisbon.

Jorge Luz, founder of ITELMATIS, a leading company in the area of ​​automation and process control, and a graduate in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from UAlg, will also be distinguished with an honorable mention.

After the award ceremony, at 12:30 pm, a lunch will be held in the Canteen of the Campus de Gambelas, "which will allow a reunion between former colleagues and, simultaneously, a rapprochement with the UAlg of all those who contributed to its growth", says the University of the Algarve.

The registration fee for lunch is 15,50 euros. Children between 4 and 12 years old pay 6 euros. Payment must be made through the following IBAN: PT500035020500002453230 49. Registration must be completed by the 28th of January here.

Part of the value of this lunch will revert to UAlg's Social Action Services Emergency Fund, intended to support students in need.

The University of Algarve Career Alumni Award honors and distinguishes a graduate in one of the courses taught at the University of Algarve.

The Algarve academy explains that, with the award, «the intention is to recognize the career of a graduate with proven relevance in the following domains: development of society and recognition of the quality of teaching at UAlg. The entire academic community (professors, non-professors, students, alumni) can participate by appointing one or more graduates who meet the conditions set out in the regulation of this initiative. Self-proposals are also accepted”.
