Lagoa, Cidade Educadora, hosts the 2019 National Eco-Schools Seminar

«Lagoa, Cidade Educadora» already has more than 50% of its schools in the Eco-Schools program

O National Eco-Schools Seminar 2019 will take place from the 18th to the 20th of January, at the Centro de Congressos do Arade, in Parchal (Lagoa). Organized in partnership with the municipality of Lagoa, it is a time for updating, co-learning and sharing between professionals in the field of education for sustainability.

«Lagoa, Cidade Educadora», which currently has more than 50% of its schools in the Eco-Schools programme, was involved from the first minute in the organization of this meeting, which will also enable a deeper knowledge of the municipality and its potential and sustainability practices.

Eco-Schools, an international program recognized by UNESCO as the largest education network for sustainability in the world, currently adopted in 67 countries, which celebrates its 25th anniversary this year at the international level, is currently constituted as a “tool” for implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (Agenda 2030), emphasizing its vocation of education for responsible citizenship.

The seminar's target audience is the coordinating teachers of the Eco-Schools Program, other teachers, technicians from municipalities involved in the Eco-Schools Program and other professionals linked to environmental education/for sustainability.

The objectives of this meeting are «to bring together the coordinating teachers of the Eco-Schools Program and the technicians from the municipalities involved in environmental education, in order to encourage communication, enable the sharing of common goals and the exchange of experiences», as well as «disseminate new projects and initiatives related to Eco-Schools 2018/2019».

It is also intended to «provide specific information related to the theme of the year: forest and the sea», and even «provide scientific and pedagogical information regarding other work topics: water, waste, energy, climate change, biodiversity, geodiversity, agriculture biological, healthy and sustainable food etc».

Other objectives are «to debate referential strategies and methodologies in Education for Sustainable Development», «to provide participation in workshops of a practical nature leading to an enrichment of strategies in environmental education» and even «to debate the methodology and strategies of the Eco-Schools Program ».
