Sérgio Godinho and the Orquestra Clássica do Sul gave, this Saturday, December 8th, a «memorable concert» at the Cine-Teatro Louletano, in Loulé, where there was no lack of the hits “Primeiro Dia” or “Com um Brilhozinho nos Olhos”.
After the acclaimed shows with Blind Zero, Banda Filarmónica Portuguesa, Samuel Úria with Márcia, Tatanka with Ana Newton and the Avishai Cohen trio, Cine-Teatro welcomed Sérgio Godinho and Orquestra Clássica do Sul.
«In front of a completely sold-out room, and accompanied by his accomplice band “Os Assessores” as well as by the inseparable pianist Filipe Raposo (author of the orchestra arrangements), Sérgio Godinho spent two hours on stage showing, at the age of 73, all his vitality and artistic versatility in a generous line-up of 22 songs, which included new songs, some of which were already unavoidable, such as “Grão da minha mó”, but which also revisited several hits from his career, such as “O Velho Samurai”, “Dias useful”, “O elixir da eternal youth", "Freedom" or "Let's dance in the world".
«Dynamically alternating songs with only orchestra, piano and voice, with others in which Os Assessores joined the other musicians, and still others with just the band or with Filipe Raposo (only voice and piano on the beautiful theme “Fotos do Fogo”), Sérgio Godinho once again demonstrated why he is one of the most multifaceted and inspiring performers of his generation (and of Portuguese music in recent decades), and is on his way to completing half a century of career in 2020», says the Câmara de Loulé.

«This happy and creative harmonization of the orchestral framework with Sérgio's voice was especially evident in themes such as "O Primeiro Dia", "Dirges a Bárbara Escrava", "With a little sparkle in the eyes", "Goddess of Love", "Only in this country” or “Grain of the same millstone”, which gained new and renewed horizons and readings through this fertile crossing of instruments and sounds».
In addition to lyrics about love, family, war, migrations and the human condition, the concert in Loulé was not lacking in timeless themes focused on social denouncement and satire, such as “Liberdade”, Bem-vindo Sr. Presidente” or “Only in this country”, with new guises in which the creativity of the arrangements was once again evident.
«To end the apotheotic night, with the public in absolute connection with the artists, two encores with the songs “The Last Night”, “Coro das Velhas”, “The First Day” and “Grain of the Same Millstone”, «in a show that knew a little and knew a lot».
