Mafalda Veiga is a Portuguese composer, author and singer, born in Lisbon, where, after spending seven years in Spain, she also resides. Great-granddaughter of Simão da Veiga (painter), she learned as a child to use brushes, oils and canvases with her grandmother, also a painter, but it was the viola, who learned to play with her younger uncle, fado guitarist Pedro da Veiga, who became his inseparable companion.
Although her first contact with music was, from an early age, in an environment of family gatherings and fado singers in Montemor-o-Novo, her taste for songwriting and songwriting was revealed very early.
His first album, “Pássaros do Sul”, was released in November 1987, when he was in his second year of Modern Languages and Literatures at the Faculty of Arts of Lisbon, a degree he completed while music was clearly and consistently asserting itself. as a professional and life choice.
Over the years, he edited several albums that were silver, gold and platinum records, such as “Tatuagem” (1999) whose songs were featured in the soundtracks of soap operas on the Brazilian TV Globo, “Ao Vivo” (2000) at Centro Cultural de Belém , in Lisbon, the dvd “5 de Outubro at the Coliseu de Lisboa”(2004), “Chão”(2009) and “Zoom” (2011).
His latest album, “Praia”, produced by Fred Pinto Ferreira and Mafalda herself, was released in November 2016 by Sony and presented in full live at Casa da Música in Porto and at Teatro Tivoli in Lisbon in February this year.
