Portimonense and Sporting confirm Rafael Barbosa's return to Alvalade

Rafael Barbosa starts to represent Sporting's under-23 team

Rafael Barbosa is no longer a player for Portimonense and returned to Sporting, after a contempt with Rodiney Sampaio, president of the SAD of the Algarve, confirms a joint statement from the two clubs, released this Wednesday, October 3rd.

Both teams concluded that "there are no conditions" for Rafael Barbosa to remain in Portimonense and, as such, "the player will immediately join the Sporting SAD Under-23 team", reads the statement.

Despite what happened, SAD do Portimonense said it would thank Sporting for «the confidence in the temporary transfer of the player for this season», wishing the «greatest personal and sporting happiness» to Rafael Barbosa.

Last Saturday, 29 September, Rafael Barbosa and Rodiney Sampaio clashed at the end of the game between Portimonense's under-23 team and Benfica.

At the time, according to Record reports, the leader of the Algarve team's SAD had even head-butted the young player, following an argument. Rafael Barbosa would later file a criminal complaint against Rodiney.

A "alteration" was confirmed by Portimonense and Sporting reacted saying that it would "unconditionally" support the player.

This Sunday, the 7th of October, at 20:00, there is a meeting between Portimonense and Sporting, counting for the 7th round of the I League, at the Estádio Municipal de Portimão.
