Book on sustainable ocean development is presented at the University of Algarve

Initiative is part of United Nations Day

The book “Sustainable Ocean Development: a useful utopia” is presented this Wednesday, October 24 (United Nations Day), at 15 pm, in the Seminar Room of the Rectory at Gambelas Campus of the University of Algarve (UAlg), in Faro.

This edition, which now goes public, resulted from the international conference that took place at UAlg, in November 2017, on the same theme, with the aim of honoring Mário Ruivo, professor, biologist and oceanographer.

The book will be presented by Luís Menezes Pinheiro, Portuguese representative at the UNESCO Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission.

Maria João Bebianno, coordinator of the Center for Marine and Environmental Research (CIMA) and member of the United Nations Expert Group “Regular Process for Global Reporting and Assessment of the State of the Marine Environment, including Socio-economic Aspects”, will outline a perspective on the “Assessment of the State of the Marine Environment and the Socio-Economic Aspects of the United Nations”.

At the end of the session, the exhibition “Mar Profundo Português” will also be inaugurated, with the support of the Ministry of the Sea.
