Visit to the Algarve Fruit Tree Collection and two get-togethers on fig and salt at the Mediterranean Diet Fair

Mediterranean Diet Fair motivates guided visit and two get-togethers-tour

A visit to the Algarve Fruit Tree Collection at the Tavira Agricultural Experimentation Center (CEAT), which will take place next Friday, September 7th, at 10 am, is one of the contributions of the Regional Directorate of Agriculture and Fisheries to the program gives Mediterranean Diet Fair, which starts tomorrow.

The visit will have the technical support of engineers José Entrudo, António Marreiros, João Costa and José Tomás, all of whom are technicians from that regional department, «with recognized merit in these matters and deep knowledge of the heritage that this collection represents not only for the region of Portugal. Algarve, as for the entire Mediterranean Diet community».

The participation of these technicians will make it possible to transmit to visitors «knowledge and cultural enrichment on these matters», since they are «the people who permanently accompany this unique collection in the country», stresses the Algarve Regional Directorate of Agriculture, which adds that the activity also is part of the In the European Year of Cultural Heritage.

Still within the scope of Mediterranean Diet Fair, there will be two get-togethers promoted by the Algarve Regional Coordination and Development Commission on outstanding activities of the Mediterranean Landscape.

One of them is entitled «O Figo – Cultural Food of the Algarve», and will also take place at the Tavira Agrarian Experimentation Centre, in partnership with the Regional Directorate of Agriculture and Fisheries, on Friday, the 7th of September, starting at 9:00 am.

The second, with the theme “Landscapes of Salt”, will take place in the saltpans of the company TaviraSal, by Rui Francisco Neves Dias, on Saturday, the 8th, also at 9:00 am.

These two get-togethers are intended to evoke «the close connection between the barrocal fields and the riverside areas and their importance in the international affirmation of the Algarve, in economic and social terms».
