Go to Alcoutim to spend the morning with a pastor

A different initiative will have a walk with a herd along the mountain tracks

Spend the morning with a shepherd, as a way to value the Algarvian breed goat. This is how a workshop will take place on the 4th of October, starting at 9:30 am, at Monte da Corte da Seda, in Alcoutim.

«The goal is to learn the art of shepherding with a true shepherd, taking advantage of the beauty and tranquility that the Algarve mountains provide to tourists», explains the Odiana association, organizer of the initiative.

This is the first edition of this workshop, which is intended to be innovative, taking a walk with a herd along the mountain trails. This is the «ideal opportunity to learn about aspects of the history of the Algarvian Breed Goat, namely, behavior, eating habits and traditions».

To conclude, there will be a picnic with tasting of regional products, where fresh goat cheese takes center stage. The meeting point is at Monte da Corte da Seda, in Alcoutim, where the participants will then be transported to the hiking site in all-terrain vehicles.

The scheduled date for the workshop is October 4th, from 09:30 am to 12:30 pm, organized by Odiana.

For now, the association has opened a form for pre-registration that runs until 2 October and can be done here

The minimum number of participants for the workshop is four people and a maximum of 20.

Once these conditions are met, participants (in order of registration) will receive a confirmation email and NIB for mandatory prepayment of 30 euros (or 15 euros in the case of children up to 12 years old). As there is no minimum number of participants, Odiana reserves the right to change the workshop date, always in conjunction with interested applicants.

This activity follows the Odiana project “Oficinas do Saber Tradicional”, in close collaboration with the company “Fonte d' Almece”.

“The objective is the tourist revitalization of the traditional activities of the Lower Guadiana through unique experiences that attract more tourists and involve the local community in the identity culture of the Lower Guadiana”, says Odiana.

The initiative is part of the Creatour project, which aims to pilot a research agenda focused on creative tourism in small towns and rural areas.

Creatour is coordinated by the Center for Social Studies of the University of Coimbra and financed by the Portugal 2020 Joint Activities Program (PAC).
