Scarf, medronho and Fantastic Night to “Share Memories” at Heritage Days

There is much to see, hear and experience in the monuments belonging to the Regional Directorate of Culture of the Algarve

A “Scarf that embraces Portugal” in Sagres, “Fantastic Nights in Guadalupe”, the show “Regresso ao Branco”, in Milreu, and the screening of the film “Medronho todos dias” at the Megalithic Monuments of Alcalar, in Portimão, are initiatives of the European Heritage Days (JEP) that take place from 28 to 30 September.

The program presented by the Regional Directorate of Culture of the Algarve meets the proposed theme: “Sharing Memories” «and also reflects the principles of the Convention – Framework of Faro, where heritage is conceived in a more comprehensive, holistic way, integrating not only the officially recognized physical or intangible heritage elements, but also the elements that are valued and recognized by the communities», he explains.

The JEP program opens with the “Scarf that embraces Portugal” project, opening at the Fortaleza de Sagres, on the 28th of September, at 10:00 am.

This is a pedagogical project that was born in the Vila do Bispo Kindergarten and aims to reactivate a tradition that is in disuse: knitting.

The project grew, reached other schools, homes and families in the country, crossed borders, flew and sailed to other European countries. Now he returns home, to the same county where he was born, enriched with new scarves, with other “knowledges” from other hands, from countries far away.

The “Rose of the Winds” in the Fortress of Sagres was the inspiration for the various works that are now presented in this monument and a new “Rose of the Winds” will be reinvented by the hands of the children of the Kindergarten and made with the contribution of everyone.

The project is designed by Lina Nascimento – Kindergarten of Vila do Bispo/Vila do Bispo Schools Group and counts on the collaboration of Vila do Bispo Chamber.

“Fantastic Nights in Guadalupe”, a project by Vicentina – Association for the Development of the Southwest, will take place at the Chapel of Nossa Senhora de Guadalupe, in Raposeira (Vila do Bispo), on September 29, from 20:30 to 22:30.

This is a show by Spoken Word, with Napoleão Mira, music and performance by Sickonce (Rafael Correia) and Ed Hoster (Edgar Valente), where the audience will be invited to reflect on the importance of the existence of our heritage.

The project has the special participation of Grupo Coral da Santa Casa da Misericórdia in Vila do Bispo.

Exploring the space of the Roman Ruins of Milreu, on September 29, at 19 pm, following the sunset, the production “Regresso ao Branco” will be presented.

Following a thematic route, followed by a sound installation, the audience will have the opportunity to explore the Monument in a different way, while the characters, a female choir and children will weave together the threads of a filigree that will confront them with the mirror of time , with the spirit of the place.

“Regresso ao Branco” is a co-production between Associação Música XXI, Teatro DoisMaisUm, Choir “Outras Vozes” and Grupo de Escolas Pinheiro e Rosa. It is authored by Ana Oliveira and staged by António Gambóias.

As for the film “Medronho Todos Dias – Unedo Omnes Dies”, by Sílvia Coelho and Paulo Raposo, it will close the documentary Film Exhibition “Um Mar de Filmes!” in the Megalithic Monuments of Alcalar, in Portimão, on the 29th of September, at 21 pm.

This film follows the unique knowledge of the production process of the medronho brandy and its presence throughout the Monchique region, through the voice (and body) of the distillers who continue this artisanal art. His isolation in the mountains and his patient labor reveal a particular notion of time and effort inseparable from the ancestral roots of this empirical knowledge.

It has the special participation of the Grupo Coral da Confraria do Medronho “Os Monchiqueiros” and includes a Medronho tasting. “A Sea of Films!” is a project of Rizoma Lab – Cultural Association

On September 30th, entry to the Monuments will be free.
