Smoked ham from Montalegre, ham from Castelo Branco, Estremoz, Porco Alentejano, PGI acorn from Santana da Serra, Ibérico from Guijuelo (Spain) and, of course, ham from Monchique will be on display and tasted at the XNUMXst edition of the Monchique Ham Fair, tomorrow and after, by the hand of the greatest national specialist in the sector, Chef Vítor de Oliveira.
Ham cutting workshops, technical presentations, tastings, pairings and many other activities will take place in the “Cutting Academy” space, where the specialist will be available to share their technical knowledge both with local producers, as well as with curious people and connoisseurs of this national delicacy.
At this meeting, Vítor de Oliveira will also be «responsible for monitoring the delicatessen products of Monchique, with the aim of organizing blind tastings that allow the discussion and sharing of procedures, processes and organoleptic qualities of the region's delicatessen, thus opening the borders knowledge about a sector that is as important as it is unknown», stresses the Municipality of Monchique.
The local authority says it intends, therefore, to «give another dimension to the Ham Fair and provide the opportunity to bring knowledge and flavors from other ham producing regions to local producers».
To the entertainment scheduled for the Fair, with concerts by Aurea, on Saturday, July 28th, and Blaya, on Sunday, 29th, both at 22 pm, thus joins a more technical aspect, focusing on the ham.
The Monchique City Council also informs that within the scope of this edition of the Ham Fair, there will be temporary restrictions on road traffic, especially in Largo de São Sebastião.
Between 00:00 on the 28th and 04:00 on the 30th of July, the organization appeals to residents and regular users of that square and other establishments and services installed there, for the need to respect the following guidelines:
-From 06:00, and during the period indicated, parking will be prohibited on the São Sebastião street section;
-The activities and works, even if temporary, of loading and unloading and works or events of any nature that occupy the public highway are prohibited.
