Os cleaning work, which led to the felling of dozens of trees on a plot of land in the Ria Formosa Natural Park, in Cacela Velha, were suspended this Thursday, due to infractions on the cliffs, he confirmed to the Sul Informação source of the GNR.

According to the Sul Informação, the National Institute for Conservation and Forests (ICNF) today suspended the cleaning due to the fact that the machines had affected the cliffs in that area, next to the Ria Formosa.

"Deforestation has already been suspended and administrative offenses will be raised because they were cleaning beyond what they could," said the GNR source.

When the GNR's Nature and Environment Protection Service (SEPNA) was at the site, this Wednesday, 4 July, "they hadn't moved on the cliffs," said the same source.

This land clearing, which felled dozens of trees, is taking place in a private land that is in a protected area by the National Agricultural Reserve (RAN) and National Ecological Reserve (REN), as well as in the Ria Formosa Natural Park, near Fortaleza of Cacela Velha.

O Sul Informação continues to seek further clarification from ICNF and the office of the Secretary of State for Forests and Rural Development, but so far responses from these bodies have not yet arrived.

Deputies José Carlos Barros and Cristóvão Norte, elected by the PSD in the circle of Faro, have already asked, however, clarifications to João Matos Fernandes, Minister of the Environment, about this tree felling, in Cacela Velha, in the middle of the Ria Formosa Natural Park.
