José Carlos Barros and Cristóvão Norte, PSD deputies elected by the circle of Faro, asked João Matos Fernandes, Minister of the Environment, for clarification, about the felling of trees, in Cacela Velha, in the middle of the Ria Formosa Natural Park.

These actions, authorized by the Institute for the Conservation of Nature and Forests (ICNF), under Law No. 76/2017, of 17 August, which amends the National System for the Defense of Forests against Fire, are of "particular gravity". one reads in the question from the PSD deputies, that the Sul Informação had access.

This is because they give the «legal possibility of the action being replicated in any part of the territory, and in particular in any part of the Ria Formosa Natural Park and of the national system of protected areas».

In the questions asked, the PSD deputies asked for clarification on whether the Ministry "confirms that the action was authorized by the Institute for the Conservation of Nature and Forests" and whether the same Ministry "confirms that the actions described are legally covered by Law No. 76/2017 , of August 17'.

"If the understanding that these actions have a legal framework is confirmed, the Ministry of Environment confirms that similar authorizations can be granted by ICNF for any portion of the national territory, and in particular for any portion of the national system of protected areas, regardless of the environmental protection statutes of the territories in question?”, it is also read.

Finally, the PSD deputies ask what «action has been developed by the Ministry of the Environment, or intends to develop» in light of what happened.
