Luís Graça, president of PS Algarve and deputy in the Assembly of the Republic, blames the previous PSD/CDS government for the refusal of approval by the Court of Auditors for the alteration of the concession contract for the EN125, which postpones the promised works on that road, in the section between Olhão and Vila Real de Santo António.

In a statement, the political leader states that the «Portuguese State owes the Algarve and the Algarve to the requirement of full compliance with the contract originally assumed by the company Rotas do Algarve Litoral with the Government».

Therefore, argues Luís Graça, the concessionaire should quickly be called by the Government to «fulfill all the responsibilities assumed in terms of requalification works, current maintenance interventions and support to motorists», in order to move forward with the contract on the EN125 , between Olhão and Vila Real de Santo António.

«There was a contract in force, which provided for the complete requalification of the EN125, between Vila do Bispo and Vila Real da Santo António, and the PPD/CDS Government promoted, it is now irresponsibly confirmed, its alteration in 2014, clearly harming the populations of Sotavento, claiming a set of savings that only materialized at the expense of not carrying out the works and the complete abandonment of the EN125 between Olhão and Vila Real da Santo António», points out the president of PS Algarve.

Last Thursday, June 28, the Court of Auditors (TC) refused to review the contract for the Algarve Litoral sub-concession, which would allow Infraestruturas de Portugal to proceed with the requalification works on the EN125 between Olhão and Vila Real de Santo António.

Jorge Botelho, president of AMAL – Algarve Intermunicipal Community, it has also already reacted to this lead, saying it is “bad news” for the region.
