The "emergency" works on the EN125, in the section between Olhão and Vila Real de Santo António, started this Monday, June 4th, but with a delay of more than 15 days compared to the announced deadline.

This project, with 'urgency character', is carried out on a section of 38,157 kilometers from Olhão (kilometre 114,6) to the limit of the municipality of Vila Real de Santo António (kilometre 152,757), crossing the municipalities of Olhão, Tavira, VRSA and Castro Marim.

According to Infraestruturas de Portugal (IP), "work will be carried out at the pavement level, which involves, among others, milling and repaving, the heightening of the shoulders and execution of the horizontal marking of the lane".

In April, IP said the works would be completed "before the summer period" and would start in mid-May. But the 45-day execution period means that, at best, the works are completed between the 15th and 20th of July, in midsummer, when the Algarve receives thousands of tourists.

PS Algarve has already gone public to register, with pleasure, the progress of the works. "The voice of its mayors and of the populations was duly listened to by the Government and it now hopes that, after the due assessment by the Court of Auditors, the launch of the tender for the global and fundamental requalification of the EN125 will be carried out."

These works on the EN125 are part of a package, announced by the Government, which also includes the EN124 and EN396, the works of which began on 25 May.
