Portugal Day will be “celebrated” with a protest against the «deplorable state' of the EN125, in an organization of the Citizenship Movement of Users of Estrada Nacional 125 (EN125) – Sotavento.

Starting at the roundabout in Cacela, on the 10th of June, a march will be organized, on foot or by bicycle, to the junction of the Retur, over a distance of five kilometers…and hundreds of holes.

A petition “For the dignity and safety of the EN 125 – immediate rehabilitation works in the section between Olhão nascente and Vila Real de Santo António” it was signed by more than 7.000 people and delivered by the Movement in parliament. yours subscribers were already heard last Monday, but in a hearing, unprecedented in the Algarve, which brought the deputies to VRSA.

The company Infrastructures of Portugal (IP) already started «emergency» works, which this movement considers «superficial and last minute, not having been the desired redevelopment of the EN125 for many years, in the section Olhão-Vila Real de Santo António, abandoned and forgotten by the central government».

All those who wish to participate in the Day of Portugal protest «must do it on foot or by bicycle, will have a supply of water and fruit along the way, transport by bus for the return trip and must wear a black t-shirt – symbol of the the mourning in which Sotavento lives, due to the constant and shameful disrespect and forgetfulness that we have been targeting for more than a decade by successive governments», says that movement.

The organization expects a “huge adhesion from a population that is outraged and fed up with false promises, that feels forgotten and disrespected and that represents almost 5% of the national GDP. Sotavento is the gateway, by land, for the vast majority of tourism that allows the economic sustainability of this region and much of the country», he considers.

This initiative, as well as the Citizenship Movement of Users of Estrada Nacional 125 (EN125) – Sotavento, tells with the partnership and support of the municipalities of Castro Marim and Vila Real de Santo António, presided over by the social democratic mayors Francisco Amaral and Conceição Cabrita.
