The “Sax ao Sul” – II Algarve Saxophone Meeting will take place in Portimão, between the next 18th and 20th of May. There will be three days of Masterclasses and classical music concerts, which will take place at the Auditorium of the Bemposta Basic and Secondary School and at TEMPO – Teatro Municipal de Portimão.
After the success of the 1st edition in May 2017, the second, under the motto “the Saxophone and the United States of America”, has the participation of musician Preston Duncan, from the University of Minnesota, who will teach the Classical Saxophone Masterclasses.
On Friday, May 18th, the program opens with a reception for participants, scheduled for 16 pm at Casa Manuel Teixeira Gomes, followed by two concerts, one with Preston Duncan and another with Elletric.PT Colletive, at 00:21 pm, in the Small Auditorium of TEMPO – Municipal Theater of Portimão.
On Saturday, May 19th, the Masterclasses start in the morning and end at 19pm, with saxophonist Preston Duncan, on classical saxophone. On the same day, at 00 pm, the Bemposta EBS Auditorium receives the Dithyrambos concert.
Filipe Valentim, founder saxophonist of the group "Uma Coisa em Forma de Assim", joins percussionist Vasco Ramalho for a new musical project. Both living in the Algarve for several years now, decided to join percussions, marimba, saxophones, flute and the like to the marvel of technology. Instruments and machines promise to give a different note to this encounter.
On Sunday, May 20th, from 10:00 am to 13:00 pm, another Masterclass will be held by saxophonist Preston Duncan, while at 14:30 pm the lecture “The Saxophone – (what) State of the Art” will take place at the EBS Auditorium in Bemposta , with José Massarrão and Preston Duncan.
The organization invites all musicians, students and those who are curious about this very charismatic instrument to participate in this very special moment.
